The narrower grooves and fewer shallow sipes perform well on wet surfaces but are less capable than its counterpart. KM3 is one of the top tier mud-terrain tires, featuring an aggressive symmetrical 4 pitch tread design with comparatively densely packed smaller tread blocks allowing narrow voids between them, this excels the tire’s performance on-road due to its larger contact patch, providing greater grip. The tire is not comfortable on-road due to the loud noise it produces but is recommended for off-road travel due to its impact dampening capabilities. It is made up of a highly resistant tread compound along with high-strength steel belts and 3 ply body casing providing the tire with strength and durability to last longer on harsh terrains. The bold stone ejectors allow this tire to navigate confidently through the rocks as they prevent the stones from getting stuck inside of its grooves. This tire is ineffective on ice due to a slightly lower contact patch, making the tire to slip. The shoulder stud grooves are exceptionally large which helps in the self-cleaning action of the tire, allowing the mud to easily evacuate through them. Multi-angle tread edges are provided for an extra boost in off-road traction as they allow better biting action, making the tire retain its grip even on the most slippery surfaces. Similarly, these relatively wider grooves are very effective for removing the loose terrain such as mud, soft snow, and gravel, allowing maximum grip hence resulting in a better off-road tire. There are full-depth sipes engraved between the tread block which along with the wider grooves allow easy navigation on watery surfaces since they efficiently wipe away the water. If I had a more dedicated trail rig, the KM3's for sure, or if I lived somewhere I could get off the road and play within 30 minutes.X3 has an aggressive symmetrical 4 pitch tread design which features large tread blocks with wider and deeper grooves between them, restricting the contact of tread with the ground, causing the tire to lose grip and underperform on-road. They don't have the street wet traction of the KO2, don't ride quite as smooth and do make a little noise.Īnyway, for a daily driver and commuting to work, I would and do go with the KO2's. The KM3 is better at pretty much everything off-road except maybe snow, but their downfall is on-road manors. The KM3 is notably better in wet conditions and also great in dry. They are also great in rocks and dry type conditions. Off-Road: KO2 are excellent in sand and snow, I mean good. This is my opinion only, but I am very sensitive to these things. Two weeks ago I installed 35x12.5 BFG KO2 and the ride quality, traction and smoothness were night and day better. I stuck the truck with both ends locked in 6" of mud as the GY's balled up almost instantly and no amount of throttle was cleaning them. I was sliding around in the rain, they were loud, and I could feel the "MT buzz" in the steering wheel. After 200 miles on the GY's, I already hated them. I was debating if I was going to replace the stock PW Goodyear tires or let them wear out before I got the truck last month. The wet traction is excellent, they ride good and are very quiet for as aggressive as they look. On Road: For a daily driver the KO2s great on the street on both my rigs. I don't have the experience on with wear on an HD truck so we shall see. I would expect at least 50k miles out of them. I have 25k miles on the KO2 on the Wrangler and they look to be about 40% worn. I have not run Nitto's and a couple of other main brands to be clear so maybe there are better tires out there. I have run AT's and MT's from Goodyear, Coopers, Dunlop, and a few others and none of them were anywhere as good as BFG's at anything. I guess some folks have had a bad time with them but for me, they have been absolutely great and have been for more than a decade. I don't understand all the KO2 hate going around. I have had both on rigs ranging from trucks to SUV's to Wranglers, and I currently chose to have KO2's on my PW and Wrangler.
